The park system is composed of 52% multi functional parks, 20% natural resource parks, 11% multiple use recreational parks, 7% undeveloped parks, 6% sports complexes, 2% special use lands, 2% green space, and 1% special use facilities. Pioneer Park is one of the city’s most popular parks. It was developed in the 1930’s and features 34 acres of wooded, hilly green space with a winding creek, Folf course, tennis courts, a wading pool and other amenities. Annual events like Saturday Live (a public school fundraiser) and the popular "Symphony in the Park" are held at this beautiful outdoor venue.
North Park and South Park date back to the turn of the century and are part of the original town plat. Each park has 17 acres of beautiful landscaping and mature trees. South Park is a summertime favorite for swimmers and both areas offer well maintained grounds as well as updated playgrounds.
Riverfront Park is located along the banks of the Yellowstone River, in south Billings. The park measures 440 acres, twelve of which are developed. The rest of the area has been left in its natural state. Lake Josephine, located in the same vicinity, offers good fishing for a quick afternoon get-a-way or a long Saturday under the sun.
Amend Park is primarily a soccer venue and accommodates thousands of local youth who play the game. Other community events are also enjoyed at this well-maintained park. Kite and remote control airplane enthusiasts can also be found enjoying this park.
