Upon graduation, the program mints a new batch of leaders: a diverse group of individuals with a renewed commitment to their local community. Leadership Billings graduates have skills, contacts and information that can turn commitment into action for decades to come.
Along with government affairs, business development and networking events, the Billings Chamber/CVB Leadership Billings program is designed to help professionals become more active in the community in which they live and do business. Leadership Billings assists Chamber/CVB members by helping them learn more about local government, services and volunteer opportunities. The program invites entrepreneurs and private-sector, nonprofit and government executives to apply for admission.
Leadership Billings begins in October annually with classes meeting once monthly, ending in May with a formal graduation event. Classes typically are made up of 40 participants. Topics are designed to familiarize the class with public policy issues and local organizations, and include exposure to economic development, as well as details on how to be an effective board member. Participants learn about community services available, healthcare and other local industry knowledge. Participants also complete community service projects.
Leadership Billings classes benefit the individuals who take them, their employers and the community as a whole.
The cost of Leadership Billings is $900/person. The tuition is generally paid by the participant's employer. Many employers are willing to pay the tuition and allow employees the time to attend because it is one way for a company to show its commitment to the community. Companies reap a variety of benefits from being good corporate citizens and encouraging their employees… to be active in the community.
